I'm thinking I need a gate to get rid of the bass drum leak into the tom mics. So I need at least 3 channels or more.
I was looking at low-price gates at Thomann and found this: Samson s-gate-4 for 135€. Would it do the job? Or does someone have any other suggestions?
Also, I've been wondering if I should get a mic-preamp? My Boss br1600 has its own preamp for each channel, but would I get better sound using some "good" external preamp?

To get a marked improvement over the 1600 (8) preamps, you'll probably have to spend 500$us or up. I wouldn't worry about it unless you have a real need. Like, the BR preamps are really crappy, or real noizy, etc.
Don't know much about the outboard gates, I work in a PC where I can tweak and gate with software =/

Aug 12, 2008 12:16 pm blanket over the kick might be better not to mention cheaper, itll cut out the high frequencies at the very least and hush everything so that a software gate will do the trick great, also adds some definition to ur kick sound. my 2 cents
