Hi There, I was wondering if there is a reference guide for mastering music suitable for radio broadcast. Someone told me if you use too much reverb the radio stations wouldn't play them...is this true? Is there a radio broadcast mastering guide available for download?

Thank oyu for your help in advance,
GretaL

I'm sure there is a book out there, but I haven't seen it yet. Check out this thread:

Take a couple of Prozac first.

I think they used the "too much reverb" as an example - No doubt, with the extreme overcompression / limiting most radio stations use, an overuse of verb is going to kill it. But "raw sound quality" is more or less "there" or "not there" in most cases.

Yes, just mix and master it for optimum sound quality and let radio handle the...rest. Don't be too appalled when you hear how dreadful it sounds on the air. Radio makes everyone's music sound that way, so at least there's a level playing field.
