Hi all,
I just got myself a midi usb keyboard but I'm really new to the midi world. could someone point me to the right direction on how to (PC):
1. what are some good, common sound sample library to achieve playing through the computer in real time?
2. I'm using adobe audition right now, is there a way to use this midi keyboard to record directly into adobe audition?
thanks a bunch!

Jul 19, 2008 10:31 pm I can't speak for Adobe Audition, because I have never used it, but generally, in any applications I have worked in you simple open a MIDI track, assign a VST instrument to it for the samples and the input is the controller (for the the less-than-specific info).
As far as software sample packs, Cakewalk Project5 has quite a few great synths and sample sets in it, plus it's all VST plugin-able. www.zzounds.com...em--CAKPROJECT5 the little brother (and a little cheaper is Kinetic www.zzounds.com...tem--CAKKINETIC and is a cool package in it's own right.

Jul 20, 2008 03:43 am thanks for the info, I will look into these. also I took the liberty of doing some researching and found out that I need to replace the onboard realtek sound card, which would you recommend as a entry level card that can better than the onboard audio but won't break the bank?
thanks a bunch!

Jul 20, 2008 05:26 pm Hey Roy, I'll start with the card and a couple of question's.
What kind of recording are you going to be doing? Any guitar, bass or vocals needed? That will kind of help find a good recommendation for you.
And for the sound library. what type of instruments, sounds are you looking for? What genre or type of music will you be doing is maybe a better question?

Jul 21, 2008 08:49 am hello Noize:
thanks for the reply again, and sorry for the double posting. so I've listed my choice of style in the gear gab sound card thread.
as for instrument voices, I found out that I really like working with the cakewalk TTS-1 in sonar, just simple bread-and-butter sounds, but of high quality. I've heard good things about Native Instruments products, would you recommend it?

Jul 21, 2008 09:21 pm Yes I would. You will find several reviews of the gear that I and dB have done in the reviews section of the site.
But yes, I do recommend their software often and use it here a good deal.
I as well like the TTS-1 for doing General Midi authoring, but have been using Native Instruments Bandstand a lot as well. Both are pretty equal with BandStand maybe a having a bit of an edge on the sounds, but not a lot.
