New Song - Judas Goat

I have been in a writers slump for months it seems. Came up with this yesterday and tracked it in just a couple hours. I have one of the super shred metal neighbors who I am gonna have play lead on it. I also should have another someone redo the drums, mine are enough to get by but I am not too flashy on the rolls and tend to drift at times.

Anyway, the mix is rough, just looking for some comments on the writing.

Man, you can do all my drum work for me. That was pretty cool. Puts my lame *** to shame :) I have an Iron Cobra pedal on my studio set and cant even use one of the pedals properly :)

Very cool sounding Cpt. Ditto on the drums to what Bushmater said, very nice job indeed. I think the mix sounds dang good myself, and the song itself is smokin'. Long as you don't throw in scream death metal type vox, I'd say it's going to be an excellent song. Would still be to those who like that sort of thing, but I've never been into it. :)

That is sweet as all get out dude. The drums sound just fine to me as well. The screaming guitars are killer as well. Well mixed by the sound of it as well. Nice separation on the guitar's and the whole nine yards.

Keep us updated as it progresses.

Cool thanks dudes. In my last few months of writers block, I spent most that time messing with mic placement and different techniques for EQ'ing my drums.

I did try the non shredding lead myself, I just didn't like it. During the clean part it was great, but I'm looking for that Hammet style solo when it comes out into the last heavy section. My chops are not up to snuff.

On the vox, I am trying to collab with my buddy in portland OR. He does a superb job of older 80's style metal vox and has a really great range to hit those JPriest type highs, that is what I am hearing at the moment.

Wow! This one is crazy. Mix sounds superb though. Not my normal cup of tea, but it sounds clean! Okay, completely taken off guard by the change up. I really like that part.

The only thing I would say, for my ear, the drums sound way back in the mix. Maybe that is normal for this style of music, but I personally am prone to having the drums with less verb and closer to the front of the mix... just a thought. Please feel free to ignore, if I sound as if I don't know what I'm talking about.

Drums in the mix, there are honestly several different styles when it comes to metal. But... I am far from done when it comes to mixing. I actually tossed it through harbal after a half *** solo I did, I must say the harbal mix made this initial one sound like doo doo. Go Harbal!! I will not post another mix until I at least get the solo tracked and get some string noise on my bass. It is audible, but needs a little definition me thinks.

On Vox, looks like I might try two different versions. My other neighbor wants to do the screamy stuff on it, so I said why not. Reason is, my main choice of the 80's type metal singer said he is super busy in July but will work on something for next month. I am too impatient to sit that long on it doing nothing :)
