CUBASE LE 4 MIDI... PLEASE HELP

Hi There Everyone,

I just started using Cubase LE 4 for recording and I have a problem when it comes to my Midi monitoring... I couldn't hear the sound coming out of my headphones when it comes to playing the midi track, but I could hear my recorded guitar parts...
I exported a Midi Drum track from Guitar Pro 5 and when I import it in Cubase and play it, I couldn't hear the sound coming out. It know that I correctly imported the midi because whenever I play it I could see the monitor bars moving so that means I imported it right, but when I play it I could get no sound from my headphones... is there something i've done wrong? Please help me with this I would really appreciate any help or advice.

Thank you and Godbless.

Have you assigned an instrument track such as the drum synth? And if so have you pointed the output of the midi track to the instrument track?

You need to assign a VSTi track to point the midi track to so you can have it actually play an instrument such as the drums sounds.

thanks so much for the reply. i tried doing this too, i tried to download some vsts but it just doesnt work.. But i think theres something im doing wrong. I tried to do everything in the manual and i still dont get the midi to sound. I also tried this Halion thing and I also downloaded the halion package to be sure and it still doesnt work.. But im sure theres something im doing wrong I just dont know what... Could you guide me through the steps on what to check and do so that i could hear my midi playback?

here's what i've done so far:

1. exported programmed drums from Guitar Pro 5 to Midi
2. opened a new project in Cubase LE
3. added an instrument track(used the Halion option)
4. dragged the midi file to the instrument track

but when i play it, i still dont get sound. when I open the presets in the Halion control, I just couldnt see any file even though I installed the halion package already(im currently using Mac OSX)

please help... I really am on the end of the rope here... Im planning to get the EZdrummer but if I couldnt get through this problem, I dont think that it would be easy for me to use the EZdrummer..

thank you and I really appreciate any reply

I'm not a Cubase user at all and haven't touched it in years. There are several here that run Cubase and hopefully they will drop in to give a hand here.

I know you need to assign the instrument in the VST menu somewhere but not sure exactly were.

LE4 doesnt have VST instrument "racks", it only has instrument "tracks".
i cant comment too much on the midi thing but i can tell you this.

with EZDrummer, you cant use the multitrack option if you are using LE4 because LE4 as i said doesnt have the VST instrument rack.
The difference between that and just your normal instrument track is, for example, with EZDrummer you cant bring in each drum as a seperate instrument for mixing and level etc, your programming or loops are only available as one track as a whole.

This is the prob i had with LE4, so i bought Cubase 4.

What you could do is just quickly make a few drum hits in a new project in your midi in Cubase and see if that works. if it does, then there is a problem with your G5 exported midi, or youve missed something in the midi setup in cubase.
If not then scroll thru your operation or getting started manual and follow the exact method they say, just to make sure its all good.
One other thing, that Halion problem seems to be common with LE4, with mine i couldnt even load it up at all, be sure to update your LE4 as much as it will go, think its a bit buggy or something. there are quite a few updates for it.
