Impedance: 4 - 8 Ohms?

I've got those cheap-*** speakers.

The only specifications i could find were under "Hi Tech Features" (lol)

Anyway,

Impedence: 4-8Ohms

Input Power (RMS) 20 - 200W

Max Power (Peak) 600W

Frequency Response 45 - 20KHZ

Sensitivity 93+/- 2db

Cabinet Size approx 500 x 300 x 300

8" Driver Speaker

Now; i used to have a cheap power mixer powering them, but it broke; and i suspect its because the impedance were not matched. The mixer says (said) 350W 4OHM; is that too little? too much?

What does 4 - 8 ohm mean anyway?

Ok, so my main question is:................

Will the speakers mentioned above work with a Behringer A500 www.behringer.com/a500/index.cfm?lang=ENG

I just don't get all of the impedance stuff or specs, and i don't want to waste money on a power amp that wont work or will break.

Also, if someone wants to offer a cheaper alternative, i'm all for that as well, but this behringer power amp seems quite competitively priced.

Thanks for reading through all of that :P

I read that as being speakers that will work under a 4 or 8 ohm load.

Is there an 8" speaker that can handle 600 watt output peak? Jeezuz...

4 ohm amp is fine for 4- 8 ohm speakers its only when you mix em around backwards like say, 8ohm to a 4 ohm. the amp (8 ohm) has to drive too hard to power the 4 ohm speaker and slowly but surely will kill the amp.
you'll find for example that you'll have to keep turning the amp up more and more to get the desired volume and eventually the amp will cook.

apparently the speakers dont like the power also, something about it not matching the ohms of the speaker can fry the voice coil.
not 100% clued up on that part.
but the sound waves created in the speaker put too much on the speaker coil wire and it dies.

on the simpler side though, even if you're trying drive 600watt speakers with the omhs matched correctly, with a 350 watt amp, the amp, its gonna die.

always match the specs when trying to match speakers and amps, as well as the durability in relation to the amp and what you want them for. its the only way, and for piece of mind.

I seriously doubt that your amp failed due to the impedance rating of your speakers. The 4-8 ohm rating is likely the manufacturer's way of saying they will work with amplifiers designed to run with 4 or 8 ohm speakers.

Remember that it's not too much impedance (resistance) that fries amplifiers, it's too little.

Yes, the A500 will work with those speakers.
