How To Make Cubase Recognise My Audio Interface

Hi Forum!

My question: I have just bought an M-Audio Firewire Solo Interface in order to record guitar and vocals into Cubase SX. I've downloaded the correct drivers from the M-Audio website, so as to ensure that everything is Vista compliant. However, when I enter Cubase and then select New Project and Audio I do not see any signal being produced - ergo - I cannot record audio into Cubase SX. Can anyone perhaps tell me how I might go about getting around this problem.

p.s. I am a total newbie to this sort of thing, so I hope the Cubase SX experts out there will go easy on me - easyish anyway!

Well I don't use Cubase so I don't know their menu structure very well. But it should be something like this.

Go to your options/audio section and look for the audio input and output section and then make sure to select the drivers you wish to use. Make sure not to select the onboard sound card if there is one. Just select the M-Audio drivers and then they will be available in the track menu at which point you will select and audio track, arm it to record and make sure the input is set to the M-Audio device and it will be good to go.

Thanks for the reply.

I've managed to get Cubase to recognise my audio interface by selecting it in the Asiobay section of the programme. The problem now is that I cannot hear anything on playback. I can record a take with my guitar, and I can see the waves created by its output, but when I playback the recorded track I cannot hear anything in Cubase. Can anyone shed some light on this situation?

Cheers,

go into vst connections, in device manager and set up your outputs to stereo out. obviously your inputs are all good if you can see your recording in the project.

then go into control panel in cubase and select the asio driver and click apply. that should do it.

Thanks for the rely.

I did go into VST connections and then adjusted my output to stereo by adding another bus. But I still cannot hear any playback. This is all the more frustrating given that I KNOW the sound I am making on my guitar IS being fed into Cubase SX itself.

When you are recording are you remembering to hit the monitor button in the track? It's the little button next to the red arm record button.

Oh, you know what, go into your vst connections screen and make sure you have the m-audio ins and outs set as your ins and outs in that. They may not be.

Thanks. It was indeed an issue of setting my outputs to stereo in order to hear them back. Although I still cannot hear some of the songs I make when using Asio4All in my Asiobay. Why is this?
