Laptop for Live Audio

i was wondering if i could buy a laptop and audio interface and somehow use the laptop for live audio to function as a power amp, mixer, etc. would there be software that i could use to do this ?

May 12, 2008 06:42 pm A laptop cannot function as a power amp. You can use it as a mixer though and feed it to a power amp. My personal opinion is not to do this however. I would seriously consider the reliability of a setup like this. It can be done though. The problem is that if your system crashes for whatever reason, you are screwed.

May 13, 2008 10:11 pm Because software is not and amplifier. And amplifier is an electronic device that powers the speakers of the PA system. And a laptop can barely power itself via battery let alone drive a pair of 200 watt speakers.
So yes, the laptop can be used in a live situation, but you need to connect the audio interface to a PA system of some sort to hear it.
