Yet another quality choice in PC multitracking...VEGAS

All we ever talk about at these forums is Sonar and Cubase, I personally have grown tired of the weaknesses of both, each having their own. So the last few weeks I have given Sonic Foundry Vegas Video a chance...WOW...I have been amazed at it's ease of use, recording, applying effects chains, editing WITHOUT having to open another app, it has been amazing. If you are bored of the previous two mentioned, I highly recommend downloading a Demo...or, check out the Musician's Friend product page at

service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear

they have recently released version 3, which adds much to the video end of it, more audio effects, streaming options AND you can burn a CD right out of Vegas. Also, it fully support WDM drivers.

For video I had previously used Premeire from Adobe, but have always been disappointed in their audio support, with Vegas I get great video support with fancy transitions and such PLUS a full multitrack mixing environment. The only big oversite I saw was lack of Dolby 5.1 mixing...but I can live with Dolby Pro-Logic for now...

This is starting to sound a lot like a Soapbox article, and when I have time I may very well write a better review and put it there, but for now I just wanted to spread the word in case someone is looking for something new.

I will attest to Sonic Foundry having built a very good app. I do not use it like dB does, as a main program, but it is a very good app. I have used Sound Forge fo a long time even before WaveLab, and it is one of the most rock solid program's out there. They seem to strive for stability over adding to much crap into their software. I know in sound Forge, I have found a few thing's I can't even do in WaveLab. Although I will still be a faithfull WaveLab user, as it can do thing's the other's can't, Sonic Foundry get's a huge nod of approval from me for building some very stable and non space wasting app's. And cheer's to dB for saying so. Even though most of still use the 2 big gun's Sonar and Cubase, if you get the chance, try Vegas and see.

The only big thing I see in SOund Forge over WaveLab is the Streaming Media encoding, Video sync and the disaster recovery system (whoa, now that's cool!) Other than that I don't see much other stuff there...am I wrong, Noize, have a missed a couple biggie features? Sound Forge also re-writes waves a lot slower and processes effects slower...but not THAT much slower...

Remember, I am kinda partial to their built in noise reduction and the pitch shifting seem's a bit more stable. But no other thatn that WaveLab is still much faster and has a few more plus's that I find make's me stay with them. I know sound Forge's slow processing is becuase they still porcess an undo file seperatly, were as WaveLab processe's everything at once. I do like the speed of that. And WaveLab has a much better view section for editing down to the littlest snap, crackle, or pop.

Ya, I really dig Sonic Foundry's Noise Reduction plugins, they ARE the best, bar-none! but I use they in WaveLab :-)

And yes, I forgot to mention, all the Sonic Foundry plug's can be used in WaveLab, and I do use them there also.

i love sonic foundry.. i use acid pro 3 and sound forge for all my tracking and editing needs.. and its never failed me yet.

all of their products have an extremely intuitive interface and are very stable.. and vegas is no different.

i hear people slag sonic foundry for not being as good in comparison to cubase or whatever. and its simply not true. i can do everything in those two programs that you can in cubase and wavelab.. and its probably easier to do. it certainly has a much shorter learning curve =P

just my thoughts on it.
