Howdy,
I have a Dell Latitude D600 laptop and want to install a Firewire input on it (it does not have one) so I can plug my new RME Fireface 400 into it. Is there any cards on ebay or any ones that you might know of that will work and fit my laptop. I am a student so suggestions of buying a new PC is out of the question. I have seen some cards here: computers.listings.ebay.c...ListingItemList . I am Australian so that is why its the Aus ebay. Any suggestions, ideas or product you would recommended me to use would be highly appreciated.
Cheers, Boe

Oh here is one here: cgi.ebay.com.au/Laptop-PC...1QQcmdZViewItem would being a USB to Firewire be an issue and create latency/slower processing?

Looks like you're heading in the right direction; short of buying a new laptop, a PCMCIA Card is you're only option. I'm not sure what kind of computer vendors you ave access to in Australia, but it would probably be worth it to look around for a site similar to tigerdirect.com and reference what you're buying on e-bay- www.tigerdirect.com/appli...1&CatId=510

Happy hunting :)

Yeap I see what Im heading for at the moment. These cards though, do they plug into the input that kinda looks like a half size version of a floppy disk drive, thats usually on the side of a laptop? Or do you usually have to unscrew things to install one?

No unscrewing needed. Just slide it into the PCMCIA slot, like the one you're describing-

:) It's the equivalent of a PCI card for a desktop.
