There's a few about who've been sucessful with their home recordings, the one that immediately springs to mind for me is Elliott Smith, I was listening to some of his early stuff in the car this morning and you can hear all the pick noise and his fingers sliding.
Anyone think of any others?

Apr 18, 2008 05:05 am I remember a quote from 'The Making of Nevermind': 'Great rock n' roll is made by people who are looking for a home'. That rules out home recordists in rock :p.
Rivers Cuomo? He released a CD of demos in between later Weezer Albums.
Apr 18, 2008 07:39 am Syd Barrett?

Apr 18, 2008 10:30 am I just listened to some Elliott Smith on the way to work this morning (From a Basement On the Hill). Yeah Roman Candle was done mostly on a borrowed 4-track and guitar.
Simple Kid is a really fun home recordist. He's an Irish guy that makes entertaining Beck-influenced kind of stuff.
How about Guided By Voices? Not sure if they're home recorded but I can't imagine that their lo-fi sound came from any engineer or studio on the planet.
Grandaddy kind of qualify since they released several albums that they did themselves. I saw the making of Sumday and they were in what looked like their own studio, so I don't know if that qualifies as home-recorded. It was a home, and they were recording :)
