Simply put, without getting too technical on you, FireWire is basically just high-speed USB. It's better than standard USB for transferring digital video, and other applications that require higher speeds. Generally, for audio these speeds are not necessary. FireWire is not compatible with standard USB, and requires a special circuit (card) in your computer.
