I'm not sure how much stock to put into this due to the lack of cited sources, but I saw this posted elsewhere and thought some of you might get a kick out of it:

I just use cheepy roll of wire I bought from a hardware shop for less than £5 and that works fine with my 5.1 surround.

One thing to consider is the heftyness of the coat hanger wire. That solid bugger can carry a pretty hefty load of current without loss. I'm switching my cables right now to coat hanger wire.

...and if you wrap it with electrical tape and hot glue the solder joints it might actually be safe! :)

I'm puttin on Banana Jacks and using melt liner shrink tube to cover em.
