I've had the chance to use a little mac book and it has really impressed me. I was just wondering if anyone has used boot camp to run windows and if they've had any problems. The reason i havn't swiched in the past was that my recording platform has been Cakewalk Sonar and i don't want to change. I've used other programs, (cubase, Pro Tools, Logic (nice but pricy) and a # of others ) and i've always come back to Sonar . My wife needs a new lappy so i think i might get one and check it out . if it works i may end up changing my set up in the studio.

I just switched to a MacBook last month for one of my programming jobs. We are using VMWare Fusion for other OS's - I run a linux kernel under it - and you can load XP - 98 - whatever.

No reason not to, I would not say it's better at all but both platforms work fine. The only thing I like better about PC (for recording) is the price.

i almost switched to mac, but i found the window behavior of macs to be substandard to windows. i tried to run microsoft word on the in-store mac. it wasn't bootcamp: the mac os was using something else to sit between the OS and the MS code. but there was a lag. just enough to make it so that it would be infuriating for me to work with word documents.

have you used bootcamp in the store, or on a mac? how was it?

... just make sure you get applecare... otherwise tech support is $50 per question...

... and understand that apple techs probably do not own a mac themselves so they are far less familiar with it than a regular PC tech would be with a windows PC. for example... say you need to run remote desktop outside your home network and your home network is behind a firewall (aka average home network)... applecare techs are not knowledgeable enough to tell you which ports to unblock at the firewall... but they will be more than happy to email a list of all ports ever used by apple and let you sort though it.

Also, in my lifetime of computing, Apple is the only company to give me wrong information during a support call... Level 1, 2, and genius were adamant that data recovery (recovering things deleted from trash) was impossible in OSX.... which of course is absurd...

Personally I use linux because I don't like either Windows or OSX. :)
