Sony came highly recomended to me. An engineer and sales person that I do trust (rare find) drug me over the the Sony row, when I was looking under the influence of "you get what you pay for". Ok, with that preface; I have one MDR7506 and one MDRV700. Love them both! You do know about the stereo imiging aspect? Monitors.

I have a Sony pair myself and they are quite nice, mine are very old but still do the job...but then I also have a set of $20 cans from Radio Shack that do a surprisingly good job. I wouldn't recommend them for mastering, but for monitoring during sessions they are quite nice.

I have a pair of Sony MDR-V900s and I love them. I think you would be safe with most any of the higher end sony's. Just make sure not to get DJ headphones. They'll accentuate the low end quite a bit.

I guess the wording is over my head...are you talking about monitors...on my bench?

yea I am running a makie 1400 with 2 EV shelf monitors....not great but do the job for now.

I am just starting out and have not mastered a project yet, Still laying tracks for my first home project...your knowladge would be greatly accepted.

OOps, sorry, didn't intend to be over anyone's head. Sounds like you got the picture having monitors already. It is just very hard, for me anyway to judge the stereo image or separation of a recording with headhpones. They exagerate the image. I've heard some can mix in headphones and anticipate how the image will work out on speakers, but that is not my experience.

try the akg k240df headphones. the sound quality is so true, you can hear the slightest detail in the mix. from the upper scratchyness to the distortion on a guitar amp. to the bouncy balls of a clean bass track. from the smack of the coated snare head ringing through the room to the vocalists spit and air crashing against his/her teeth.

I use both Sony digital's and AKG K240M's. I like the AKG's but they are open back so you must have a quite room to mix in with them.

Just read that Behringer has come out with a line. No idea what they are like obviously.

i too favor my sonys (mdr-v700). tough to work with a lot of panning in headphones but these do pretty decently with it.
