I would like to do some basic singer/songwriter recording and it looked like Cakewalk would be perfect. For my birthday, my wife surprised me with Sony's Sound Forge Audio Studio. It appears to me that this program has recording capability but is really focused on music restoration. I think I will return it and get Cakewalk but wanted to run this by anyone who might know a little more and can advise. Thank you!

Feb 02, 2008 03:20 pm I've never used Audio Studio before, but it looks to me to be along the same lines as Sound Forge (The regular edition.) Sound Forge is used mainly for mastering and single track audio application (like podcasting, voice overs etc), so if you're looking to record multiple takes in a single single file, say one track of guitar, one track of vocals, one track of percussion, then Cakewalk Sonar Home Edition would be where you'd want to go.
Now if in the future, you'll be mastering your own audio, say to release your own CD or something, Sound Forge will come in handy then.
That's a nice gift to get, regardless!
Oh, and welcome to HRC :)
