Anyone use windows 2000?

I'm thinking about building a new machine and already have windows 2000 pro. I've heard windows 2000 is just like xp without all the bells and whistles. Or does one need those for multitrack recording? lol
I'm sure most here use xp, but I was just curious.

I hate 2000, saying it is just like XP is a lie, 2000 is a dog...

What were some of the problems with it?

Is it simply not a good OS for multitracking?

I just thought it was slow and doggish compared to XP, no "problems" perse', just annoyingly slow...XP is much faster...in my opinion.

Thanks BeerHunter.
I don't see much on a performance comparison though. (speed, etc)
I've looked around on the internet and I get mixed results on performance. Some say it's faster, some say slower, and some say the same.

I don't have a lot of experience with 2000. I had it installed on a desktop I built a few years back (before I got into recording) I know there were some programs that could not run on 2000. I think most were games though. I went back to 98se on that machine for that reason.

One very important thing... Windows 2000 is no longer supported by MS. There will be no new driver development and support will be on a pay per incident basis. In it's day Win2000 was a good OS. Both stable and reliable. However, it's time has passed IMO. XP is where it's at and where you will find the most support and compatibility.

That's ok. I haven't needed support since the windows 95 days. What a mess that was. lol

As long as I can get the SP4 for 2000.

I'm not sure what direction I'm going in. I might see if win2000 works good if not I'll get the xp upgrade.

Ya, most places that still have it will sell you XP Pro for under $150 now with a piece of hardware.

Win2k will probably work for you, but alot of the newer DAW software won't run on it. I was using Win2k when I first got back into recording but XP works alot better.

If you don't need Domain support, you can pick up XP Home upgrade for around $80 with a little shopping around, works just as well as XP Pro.
