I have $150 to spend on a recording program. I currently use Audacity and it just doesn't have everything (Free program can't complain. I am looking at Sonar Home Studio 6 XL. I think it has everything I need with the virtual drums and Boost 11. Any other suggestions or thoughts on this one?
Thanks,

Jan 19, 2008 08:37 am If I had $200 would Sonar Home Studio still be the best choice???
Jan 19, 2008 12:31 pm You should choose Reaper and send me the money you have left over.

Jan 19, 2008 04:04 pm J, I think the XL version would be a killer place to get back into Sonar for you. I'm not sure the P5 would benefit you much if at all so going the HS 6 XL route is probably the best choice for you at the moment. It does give you some killer synths and SD 2 as well so its got pretty much the whole thing covered for a good price.

Jan 19, 2008 04:42 pm Reaper is a good alternative and it is basically free. Why not try it out? If you like it, take the $100 - $200 and get a good mic for the Marshall cab.
Don't get me wrong, Sonar is great and I'm just throwing this out there as an alternative.

Jan 19, 2008 05:13 pm I honestly miss Sonar. I have audacity and I have some trouble with it. I have an Oktava mk319 and an SM57 so I got a couple of decent mics. I just want a decent recording program.
Jan 19, 2008 08:20 pm Reaper IS a decent recording program. Just because it costs less doesn't make it inferior and since it's basically free and definitely free to try what's the cost ???

Jan 20, 2008 03:44 am I'm not saying Reaper isn't a decent program. I just miss working with Sonar I kinda got used to it back in the day.

Jan 21, 2008 02:34 am I went ahead and ordered Sonar Homes Studio 6 XL. Has anyone messed with the session drummer or the Boost 11? What do you guys think of them?

Jan 21, 2008 08:42 pm Session drummer is pretty cool actually. For me it isn't a must have as I have several other drum synth programs and am fairly good at programming or playing in with the trigger kit. But it is a very easy to use and quick little app.
On Boost 11, I rate it up there with Steinbergs Magneto. Maybe even a bit higher actually as it is a killer peak limiter with gain boost. It really adds some smack to a track.
