Hey,
Im very new to this forum, i joined because i am having severe troubles with this mic I bought. I just needed a VERY cheap dynamic mic to record narrations and simple guitar lines, not anything fancy, doesnt need to sound amazing. I bought a Samson r21s (yes, the kind they sell at best buy), and I have been using it running through a zoom G2 guitar effects module just for the reverb. It seemed to be working fine, but now for some reason whenever I record something, It plays back as the guitar line, but with some sort of wierd-assed flanger-phaser effect added in, where i can only hear certain parts of the sound at a time. I tried it without the zoom thing, and it still did it. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Check to make sure your onboard sound card does not have effects enabled. Most new ones do effects as the SoundBlaster cards made popular years ago. I can't see the mic being part of the problem, either your processor or the onboard audio.

Personally I hate it when people suggest buying new gear to fix a problem, but in this instance one of those USB mics or PodCasting kits by Behringer might be a better fit for you. They don't go through the sound card and they might do a good job for simple broadcast-type applications.

Just a thought!

Did Tad recommend a Behringer product, or am I seeing things? :-D

I know, I know. I think the cold weather is getting to me! I didn't sleep well last night! I'm on medication!

For the record, Rode makes a USB mic as well, but for quite a bit more moolah than the Behri.

I think samson makes one too. May not be far from the 'B' word, but it's an option. I think the price is similar too.

From what you've posted, I would have a few questions:

If you were using the G2 as a preamp, then which jack were you plugging into? mic or line-in

When you took the G2 out of the chain, which jack were you plugging into? mic or line-in.

I don't have any real faith in the built-in preamps, or converters, but i guess they do work. I'd be considering the USB solution, to avoid the onboard soundcard, like Tadpui mentioned.

What program are you using to record?

You might be recording the direct and delayed monitor signal. See if there are any options to disable monitor things, even if it means you can't hear what you're playing, and try it again.
