VST synths disapperared in Cubase SX3

Can some kind soul please help me ? I've been using Cubase SX3 for about two years now, but I have only been using wave files recently. Now I want to include some MIDI tracks for drums etc, but I want to use synths like Hypercanvas (which is installed)and LM-7 to make them sound good.
I go to "devices/plug-in information" and see the synths there, and the "use" box is ticked. But when I go to "devices/VST instruments" they're not there as a drop-down option! I do have the POD XT Live plug-in installed, could that affect it, or is there some other setting I may have changed accidentally. I know these were working on this installation about a year ago.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Welcome to HRC.

Have you setup which files Cubase looks in to find the VSTi's?

Yes, I know where the shared VST folder is, and I checked that. The vsts I want are definitely in that folder, but I still can't select them !

In Sonar it automaticaly scans for new or changed VSTi's and find them in whichever folder'(s) I specify. I am wondering if you need to manually do this in Cubase.

Thanks for that Noize2u, when you're in "devices/plug-in information", you can change the folder where it looks for the VSTis, and there is a button to update the list of VSTis displayed, but from what I can make out in the help file, that ONLY changes what is displayed, the only way to get it to scan the new directory is to close and restart the prog., which I tried many times.

ACADEMIC, I found a work-around: installed a fresh copy, still in the Steinberg directory, but in iiCubase so it didn't simply install over the other one. The new copy has all the VSTi synths, AND still has my activated POD XT Live plugin.
Thanks to everyone for trying to help, maybe we'll never know what actually caused this, (a "gremlin" maybe ?)But at least now I can record with great sounding MIDI drums.

Hello, I'm having a very similar problem. I have installed some VSTi's and they aren't showing up in my VST Instruments section, but are showing up in the plug-in information section. Here is a screenshot,

Please help this is driving me crazy, as I did a fresh install of windows and now this is happening, but it was never a problem before. Thank you for your time.

You need to check each box like the plugins below it. Otherwise it does not know to use them. It sees them but won't use them until you tell it to.

Then hit update again and you should be good to go.

I would try making another folder for them and then scan that folder and see if it recognized them.

Yeah... I tried that many times... Its not the fact they're not being recognized... Its the fact they won't load up...

Then there is either something wrong with the VST file which should be a .dll file or there is something wrong with the VSt registration set up in your software that it is not working with those pluggins.
