Cubase not recognising UCA200 interface!

I'm very new to all this and am stuck setting up, would really appreciate help as my Cubase 4 is not recognising the UCA200 which is connected to a Behringer XENYX1204. I am using a HP laptop with Vista on it.

Can someone walk me through it, as I am fairly sure I have done it right according to the manual, and then help me correct problems? Thankyou very much!

First off, welcome to HRC.

Secondly I'll be straight up with you here. The Behringer interface device UCA series units are pretty much junk. There have been maybe two members here that have them working properly and that seems to be an exception.

I had a look on the Behringer site and don't see anything stating it will work with Vista for starters.

Have you checked the system in control panel to see if the system has it recognized as a device? I'm not really sure how it will be identified though. Then if you do see it in the system, have you tried using it for just playing back audio through Windows Media Player?

That will tell us whether the system is even seeing it.

Well, if i go to sound in control panel, it is there, so deffinately recognized, and is also being used as when I do go to windows media player and play something that works fine, so it is working as a sound card. Maybe there is something wrong with cubase??

Also this note comes up when i open cubase:

The udio input is not activated. Recording audio is not possible. Please click on the ASIO control panel button in the systme (VST) or Device Setup (Nuendo) dialog.
Make sure a device name is selected in the inpuyt ports section and activate the corresponding check bov in the first collumn.

However, the device name does not come up when i go to do this!

Do any devices come up in the device set up window of Cubase?

Thats a Vista "Loop" message you're getting Saoirse. Both my mother and step-dad get those all the time with trivial audio devices like their iPods and cameras, but both have been resolved by downloading drivers from the respective device companies as well as the elusive Vista patch Microsoft keeps putting and pulling off their site.

You might try looking in the computers audio options and see which audio drivers the system is using, as windows new drivers (UAA) can complicate things as well. Also, make sure Cubase isonly using the ASIO drivers and not using the Windows drivers.

But sad to say it, I don't see anything on Behringers end that states Vista compatibility either. You may be stuck on this one until either you or they decide to upgrade.

thanks for replys.

There are no devices as I cannot get to the control panel for devices in cubase for some reason

if i go:
Device Setup>>VST Audio System that is as far as I can get! From my previous cubase experience there would be some tabs coming off VST audio experience.

Also, when I am in sound options for recording, it gives me two options, and that is to use "2-USB Audio CODEC" or "Microphone" (which is inbuilt). Next to these are little sound meters showing me how much noise is coming through ( but i cannot hear anything). When I shout the microphone meter shows sound and when I strum the guitar the meter for the USB shows sound. So the problem is between Cubase and USB uca200 i think...?!

Also, I googled the use of the uca200 with use on vista and I found soemone saying that this was a great way of using it. So it does work, supposedly!

You might have to reinstall Cubase. I've never used Cubase, but in Sonar, when you install the program it runs a 'diagnostic' of sorts to detect the incoming and outgoing connections, kbs of each connection, etc etc. Does Cubase have an option like this? And if it does, what results does it kick back?

Well I travelled to the nearest cubase dealer which was in a music shop, and had a guy try and help me for an hour.

Conclusion:

The Behringer Uca202 IS junk. So I have bought a new interface and it works great!

Thankyou Noize2u and Keith Warren for trying to help! And to Keith... "ma spoons to big!" :)

I don't use Cubase, but I used Reaper. I have got the UCA200 to work on a laptop the is running Vista. I had to load the asio4all on the laptop and it works. Here is the link to the driver. www.asio4all.com/

They have updated this driver about a month ago to work with Vista.
