Any opinions on this preamp.

It's about at the top of my price range for now. I'm trying to record vocals with Sony Acid 4. Right now I use my V Amp pro without any amp models and the built in compression. It does ok. It's just a pain going back and forth recording guitar as well. It's a lot of patching and level adjusting.

Dec 17, 2007 08:41 pm A lot of people here love their ART gear. They build pretty good quality gear at a decent budget price. That is actually what is considered a mic channel. You get a complete package for input from a mic. I have not had a chance to use one but have heard they are pretty decent, fairly low noise floor and a nice round warm tone. You will be able to plug a mic cirectly into it and go right from the ART unit into your audio interface, which is nice. This will allow you to use the V-amp strictly for guitar as well.

Can I safely say that anything cheaper would not be worth it? This would be my first mic preamp.
Dec 18, 2007 10:42 am that is is my next choice for a full featured channel strip....i rocked a blue tube (presonus) coupled with and RNC (FMR) for long enough, i want more options for a front end.....i haven't actually played with one yet...but in my research, i've found the Pro Channel the be the juiciest bang for the buck....not to mention a tube upgrade for it can't be bad.

Dec 18, 2007 07:35 pm In a full on channel strip, ya you could say anything cheaper would not be worth it.
I used to keep hardware set ups in the old days but now prefer to use that in the software. But in places I use outside of here I have used many other channel's that are way up there in price. Some worth it and others not. The ART unit does a very good job for what it cost. It is not going to give you the results of a $3000 channel, but then again depending on your use you probably wont need that kind of channel at all.
I have gotten by for many years without the use of high dollar gear. Some has been on the higher end, but since the software processing has gotten so good I have no need for that kind of gear. But if I did need an outboard channel that would probably be one of my choices.
Dec 20, 2007 12:15 pm I hoping for some improvement over my v-amp pro. I need some sort of pre amp before the computer.
I have read some good things about the ART Pro Channel Tube Mic Preamp. It's nice to get some feedback from some people who are into what I'm into.
Thanks.
