I just got Adobe Audition and computer microphone. I want to know how to use a downloaded track instrumental and record my voice DIRECTLY over it.
Thanks

Dec 07, 2007 07:09 am I've never used Adobe Audition, but in general, here's how you would do it:
Import your instrumental in to one track of Audition. Then arm a second track to record from the source that your mic is plugged into. Monitor the first track through headphones while you overbub your voice onto the second track. Use Audition's Mixdown function to create a stereo file with you instrumental and your voice together.
The ease of this will be directly related to your knowledge of Adobe Audition, which you don't indicate.
Good luck, and welcome to HRC!

Dec 07, 2007 10:17 am Jim nailed it. File->Import and select the downloaded song. Set a second track to record using your PC mic and make sure your wearing headphones so you don't capture the music a second time.

Isn't that what a forum is for? :-)

Dec 07, 2007 11:25 am HRC for the win!!
But yeah, I use audition 2.0 also. If you got questions, toss em out.
Dec 07, 2007 01:01 pm I use AA 1.5, so between Mr. Tripps and I, we should have you covered.
Edit: What kind of crappy English is that^^^? Heheheh

Dec 07, 2007 06:06 pm hey, I resemble that remark...
Dec 07, 2007 06:34 pm I used to use Cool Edit Pro, does that get me into the club?

Sort of. When Adobe bought CEP from Syntrillium, they just put their name on it and called it AA 1.0.
For 1.5, they added a CD burner and a few other features.
For 2.0, they changed a lot of things (MIDI, better VST support, etc.)
Audition 3 is now available. I should download the manuals and familiarize myself with these versions so I can answer more questions.
I'm such a slacker.

Dec 07, 2007 09:16 pm Its kind of funny now that I think about it though. Since I keep every version of Sonar installed going back all the way to Pro Audio 8 just for that reason. So if someone by some odd chance asks I can actually bring the app up and look. Maybe its time to uninstall some of them. At least up to Sonar 2.2. I could leave that one installed.

Dec 08, 2007 03:27 pm I figured out what my problem is.
Whenever I start audition it says my audio input is not activated. But I checked in the Control panel and it tells me that I do in fact have a microphone hooked up.
I can still open open the program but I can't record anything.
I'm using Adobe 3.0 by the way
Help would be appreciated
Thanks

Dec 08, 2007 07:41 pm OK, exactly what is the mic that you have hooked up, and how do you have it hooked up? Is it a USB mic, or plugged into the mic input of your onboard sound card or do you have another audio interface it is plugged into?

Dec 08, 2007 09:42 pm It's plugged into the onboard card I think. The mic has two connections. One for the earphones and another right beside for the mic. I've used other programs and they all work fine.
Dec 08, 2007 09:54 pm It's easy to mistake one input for another on the back of a computer. If the inputs are color-coded as they are on many boxes, the blue one is the line-level input, the green is the headphone/speaker output, and pink is for the cheap microphone.
If all you want to do is record from the cheap microphone, plug it into the pink input.
Then go to Options > Windows Recording Mixer. Select the microphone input, and Godspeed.

Dec 08, 2007 10:10 pm I did what you said and now it just tells me that my input port of ASIO driver is invalid.
