I want to record my drums on my laptop in the cheapest way and get an alright sound.
Would this work and what would it sound like? I want to record the drums using a modified recorderman technique.
Bass drum mic - t. bone BD200
Snare mic - t.bone cd 56 BETA
2 overheads - t. bone em700 stereoset
Behringer mx400 line mixer
Toneport gx
Mics - mixer - toneport - laptop??
Would the toneport act like a preamp as the mixer hasn't got preamps?
I know the mics and mixer are no good but its only for a small project I had in mind. It all would cost about £200 or $400.

Dec 02, 2007 08:49 pm Well the GX does come with vocal Pre amp models. Not sure that is going to boost the mics signal enough though as it actually takes hardware to take the mics signal and up the gain to a recordable level.
You are aware that the MX400 is a mono only output mixer? And it may not yield the best mix as the recorderman technique does work best with the over heads going to a stereo output.
But in a pinch i think the MX400 may give the mics enough boost to allow a decent signal.
IF you have other alternatives for the mixer that might be a better bet.
Dec 03, 2007 10:23 am What kind of cheap mixer would you suggest using that would work best using the recorderman stereo technique with 2 added mics? Something like a BEHRINGER XENYX 802?

Dec 03, 2007 05:32 pm Well, the Behringer UB1202 would give you 4 channels of XLR with pre amps on the mixer.
Even the Xenyx 1202 is only $89.00 at zZounds. But the UX series is even lower priced then that. Couldn't find a price at zZounds though on the UB.
But that will be a very budget minded mixer for you to look into.
