Hey all,

I've had my head so wrapped up in Hip Hop over the last few days that I thought I would post an early version of our latest song just to keep my sanity.

This song is called Concrete Pillow and I wrote it about homelessness in Vancouver. It is just a scratch version but it will give you a pretty good feel for the song. Here's what I have for the lyrics so far;

Concrete Pillow

<Intro>
<verse 1>
I’m just one of the few that you once knew, got someone else’s clothes on, my shoes are full of holes,

There’s another world going on around me, people won’t slow down they won’t even speak to me,

My best friend sleeps in back of Pigeon Park, the guy across the street makes his living selling speed,

Paper planes, steaming drains, band posters on my walls, blue bin in my backyard, car horn is my alarm clock,
<pre-chorus1>
<chorus 1>
The lines of my life litter my face,

My cart is back at my safe place,

All I have is at my cold blistered feet,

Gonna settle down with a cool - concrete pillow

<verse 2>
Always know what time it is I got my own steamclock, piece of string, an old magazine in my back pocket

An afternoon of chasing nothing, scored a loonie not enough to eat, time to find my way to the Mission,

I look up at all the people goin’ to the game, got my hand out and I’ve been called some really bad names

Time to roll on down to my friend’s in the underground, going to swap out some of my most recent things
<pre-chorus 2>
<chorus 2>

The lines of my life litter my face,

My cart is back at my safe place,

All I have is at my cold blistered feet,

Gonna settle down with a cool - concrete pillow

<bridge>
<verse out>
I look up at all the people goin’ to the game, got my hand out and I’ve been called some really bad names

Time to roll on down to my friend’s in the underground, going to swap out some of my most recent things
<pre-chorus 2>
<chorus 2>

The lines of my life litter my face,

My cart is back at my safe place,

All I have is at my cold blistered feet,

Gonna settle down with a cool - concrete pillow
<out>

Bh, you just made Ray's day. He quickly jumped from his game in the next room and wanted to know who this was, and stated I should by it. I chuckled and informed him it was just a scratch track. He said so what, buy it. So it looks like you have gained another fan besides Tuna in the house here. Ray is into the heavier stuff at the moment, and loud as well. So I cranked it up and he proceeded to bang his head a bit. Silly kids.

AS for me, hell ya. Scratch track or not it was rockin. I liked the intro as it kind of miss leads you for a moment. I liked the heavy bass on this as well. Cant wait to hear it with vocals.

The vocal style has been inspired by the hip hop song that I'm doing (cheers to Bleak for expanding my mind). Anyways, as you can see there are a lot of words to blurt out so they will be "rapid fire" vocals. Haha, gonna be a lot of takes I think.

Feels good to have people diggin' our tunes. :)

Ya, Ray is usually content to just listen from their game room. But this one got him out of his chair and in here in a hurry. He was a bit bummed that it wasn't something he could make me buy on the spot.
