Looking for a solution to office music setup

I am setting up a new office where I and four other graphic designers will be listening to the same music. Currently we use one computer with speakers to play music BUT at the new location the set up will require a different layout. I want to have iTunes or even an iPod dock that could play on speakers at each persons workstation. My first thought is if I could get speakers like you find at some sports bars that can be controlled by the user. Then everyone could control the volume at their own station. I don't want to use the shared library option because I want everyone listening to the same tunes. If anyone has any ideas on a good solution to this problem let me know. I would also like to know where I can find speakers like those in sports bars as well (if this is a worthwhile solution) thanks.

Parts Express will probably have bunches of stuff like this.

www.partsexpress.com

Probably could call them up direct and get a good answer from someone there.

I'm not sure what type of speaker you're looking for that's in a sports bar. I've seen PA speakers, but also in-ceiling speakers.

in ceiling speakers are usually on a 70v system, were there's a transformer on each speaker. This can be a pain, if you're not used to it. Bogen amps come to mind here, that drives the 70v system. Probably not what you're wanting, but it's common in offices.

I guess what type of speakers is the big question.

so... have an old computer run as a icecast server over the network... the streaming server controls the order in which the songs are played and it comes though whatever player the users wants... being on the local network with only a couple users should negate any bandwidth issues.

thanks zek i will check into the icecast that sounds like a possible option. Also thanks pjk for the link.... It looks like icecast will not work on Macs though. Any other ideas out there.

Make a mix CD and run it through an tpod linked to the computer network... there's software I used to use at FullSail for just this issue, (I cant remember what its called), that will enable users on separate computers to experience the same media files, including streaming audio. Let me ask my old mates if they know what it is, and in the mean time, look around for such software. That's all I can tell ya for now.

how about some kind of multi-output poweramp...basically it'll have one line input and say six powered outs...then hook up passive speakers at everyones station....ya could throw some kind of attenuator at each station so everyone could adjust volumes independently.... OOoOOo OR you could have everyones station setup with it's own poweramp/speaker combination. then you can run a line out of the main audio source to each person....am i beein' redundant...i can see it in my head....but it will prolly cost some extra monies.

If you all install iTunes you can play each other's music collections over a network too

Yeah, outlaw I consulted my one of my old classmates and he swears it's iTunes; how to do it, I have no idea, you might have to talk to Flame more about it, but there ya go :)
