I think it's a feature of your soundcard not Cubase. You have to set your soundcard to record "Stereo Mix"

Audacity and Sound Forge will do it on one of my computers, but not on the other because I don't think the laptop soundcard supports it.

i'm not familiar with any....

you could do it the 'hard way' and run a line out to an input, just be sure you don't run a loop...and i'm not quite sure how that would work either...

maybe mic up your speaker?

sorry, not much help...

i remember in windows control panel it should have a 'record what you hear' option.

not much help, but my ESI card has a function called DirectWire. This lets you use a virtual switchboard (like the old phone switchboards) that you plug the output from one sound interface (i.e., ASIO) into the input of another interface (i.e., WDM). This lets you play from one program, and record into another.

I'm not real sure if it's just a function of the ESI hardware, or if it's just software.

I think 'what you hear' would work, but I think that's a function of SoundBlaster cards.

forty, what interface are you using again? Or if you have a SB card laying around yo can simply choose the what you hear option and it will record the outputs.

AS for the ESI interfaces I have as well as pjk. You simply link th einput to the output of whatever the device uses. If I want to record a stream from WMP I simply hook it to the ASIO driver and record in Wavelab, SoundForge or Sonar or whatever. IF they both use the WDM driver then I simply hook the output to the input and I'm good.

Otherwise, if your feeding you outputs to the mixer you can simply send an aux feed back to the inputs and your good to go.

But as for a freeware app for direct looping I have not seen a free one yet either now that you mention it.

my computer has the same soundcard db uses, but i also still have the old soundblaster installed in there, too. i think there's a way to re-activate that and use it as my default play and record soundcard, so maybe i could do that just whenever i want to record. however i would prefer a little program that does that, as i'm not using my desktop machine much anymore

forty, I simply pick the drivers for the Sb in my old surf box when I need them Otherwise it runs my old Delta 44.
