how important is it to have the right mic when recording. i have a sm58 and an alvex mic i bought used that a music store owner used for live amps.
can i use just these two mics and get the right sound recorded or is it generally better to have an instrument mic that is built for such things?
also, if i use a vocal mic for amps, will i risk blowing out the mics diaphram or whatever it's called?

I hae never been a fan of the 58 on guitar amp, but someone last night posted he had heard that it was great. I personally think it misses some of what a 57 will pick up with ease.
