Recently purchased a M-Audio Firewire Audiophile. The device should surely be powered through the firewire cable (i have a 6 pin port) but it doesn't work?! When using apower supply through the mains i can use the device. Any experts know if this is a fault through hotplugging?!

Sep 19, 2007 09:49 pm You can go into your device manager and check and see if you firewire port is actually powering the unit or if there is a fault with the port.
Otherwise I have not heard any reports of devices not running off the port. I run a Line 6 UX-2 powered off my USB port without any problems. Although I do not tend to hot plug or un plug any of those devices while the PC is powered unless it is called for in a reboot after a firmware update or something.
