No Midi Inputs

I've purchased an HP laptop with Vista, and I have loaded my Sonar 5 Producer to it. I have ran my cables to & fro from the Yamaha keyboard, and the Edirol UA-20. I bring up the Sonar on my laptop but there is no midi 'inputs' or 'outputs' except a midi mapper in the output area. Is there something I not doing here?

Did you install drivers for the Edirol?

Which HP laptop, buy the way? I'm buying shortly, one of the 17" screen ones...HP is one of the only ones that come with LightScribe.

The dv6000. I upgraded the chip to the intel duo, and the memory to 2GB. I don't understand why it's not showing the Edirol in the midi input and output boxes. When I go to instrument definition under options, it doesn't show any of the 16 channels in the left window box. It shows all the 'gerneral' midi stuff and even my 'Yamaha XG' and 'XG Drums', but no channels on the left to click what I want on them. Do I need to do some initiation file process or something? I totaly lost on this one.

Oh sorry about that. Yes I did. I went to the site and downloaded the vista driver for it. It still doesn't work, so I'm using the soft synth to play the midi throught the edirol to my board. My problem now is I have this nasty high pitch sound like a cord is bad. I've check my cords, and they are good. My rca jacks and adapters are the gold plated.

regardless of current marketing trends, gold plated is not better.

They are all 'Monster' and 'LiveWire' cables. But why am I getting that noise?
