Hi there,

Im new here and I saw the forum through google.ca and thought id see if I get an answer here cause no where else answers my questions. Im tryin to have something to record my ideas and what not cause I write music every day. So i plugged my electric acoutsic into my computer (using a cord with one end the size of a guitar plug and the other end the size of my microphone plug) and when I plugged it in it recorded just fine... in Windows generic sound recorder that is... I wanted a program that I could have many tracks and maybe even a little drum work since I dont have the money to buy mics for my drum set. So I have been using many different recording program demo's, e.g Audacity, fruity loops, sound editor pro and currently Kristal. There all fine for recording except that I cannot for the life of me have any kind of metronome. When I use the programs "in-program" metronome and when I playback I hear it almost louder than the acoustic itself. It also picks up my music playin in bkgrnd.... plz help

You can (and should) turn off system sounds inside windows. In the sound control applet somewhere.

Control panel --> sounds and audio devices --> sounds tab --> no sounds

That should get rid of you MSN sounds from popping in.

I'm thinking that you also may have a 'what you hear' option checked. On some cards, this option will record anything that is getting output from the soundcard, regardless of what program is sending it.

Uncheck this item, and it may fix your problem.

For my metronome use, I've had FL studio running in the background, playing a soundfont bell, or something similar. I know I can change my sound in reaper (for the metronome), but I've been too lazy to find it and set it.

Just leave FL running in the background, making met sounds, and switch to your tracking program and record (after you turn off the 'what you hear' option).

I'm not sure where it is, I don't have that kind of soundcard. I believe it's on soundblaster type cards, though it may be on others too.

I would think it'd be somewhere in the control panel, either for windows sound (same area i mentioned above) or in a soundblaster (or whatever card) control panel.

What type of soundcard are you using? Maybe there's some type of function that's similar for your soundcard.

Maybe someone else can kick in with SB type help, if that's what you're using.

I can get huge chanel overloads of my music players when I open them to test out my music editor.. but my acoustic isnt even registering... I checked everywhere I just was in the past 10 mins and nothing is muted or turned down... sooooo confused...

i really wish someone could help me... everything works except that one thing... i wanna have a metronome to keep my tracks in time but its just not happening... I have another sound manager other than windows default... its a program that came with my MSI board and works off of my sound card (realtek HD audio card)... the program is called realtek HD audio manager (appropriate enough). Theres soooo many options in there to mess up anything I want... anyway.. help plz :(

First off, ditch the RealTek audio manager as your sound app. Go back to using Kristal Audio Engine. In Kristal, go into the properties or setup and make sure that your RealTek card is selected as both the audio input device and the audio output device. Plug a mic into your RealTek's mic input, plug some headphones into your RealTek's headphone out. Create one track in Kristal and assign it to record from your RealTek's mic input.

Kristal should have a built-in metronome. Since you're now using headphones, the metronome will come through the headphones and won't be picked up by the microphone.
