Okay I know this is a REALLY stupid question but:
What does a sound guy do? As in job specification.
I'm just curious...

Aug 29, 2007 03:39 pm Adjusts the sound for a live band (usually).
Each song may have different sound level requirements, so this guy adjusts settings at the right time.
He/she will also be responsible for the correct wiring, microphones, hardware, monitors, etc, for a band.
That's a general description, but it's the most of it.
Welcome to the HRC.

Asks for a bigger cut than the drummer's, usually.

Aug 30, 2007 08:24 am The ones I've met at bars have rigid criteria to meet:
Show up late, hung-over, or partialy stoned.
Fumble around for 45 min to an hour unpluging and repluging things.
Argue with the bands about monitor and house speakers.
Provide just enough feedback to drive everyone crazy without going into full tilt boogie squeel.
Act real 'cool' and hit on the band's spouces / sig-othrs while band is performing.
Reinstate a significient level of drunk/stoned while working the board.
Create 'LOUD', blastismo sound with all feeds distorted to the max.
Ensure their 'cut' comes off the top before bands are paid.
Stay till closing of the bar taking hostages for the purpose of soliciting validation of their 'coolness'.
