Whats some specs that i should look for in a mic to record vocals? to record acoustic guitar?

what are you guys thoughts on the brand 'Nady'? like the Nady CM90 condenser mic? or the Nady CYM-2 Condenser Mic? Nady SCM 900 Condenser Mic?

or the AKG D 8000 S Dynamic Hypercardioid Microphone?

My advice is to have a listen. All those specs are hyped to kingdom come so you can't trust the bull coming out of the factories. Basics to look for though, are frequency response, and signal to noise ratio.

Haven't heard any of those mics sorry. For acoustic I'd recommend the NT5's though.

Everything Nandy that I have used ranks right up there with Radio Shack. Great land fill. I agree with the Colonel, the NT5's are real good. My favorites are the Oktava small condensers, but I doubt they can still be sourced. I have a set of MXL small condensers that are supprisingly good for the price.

As far as specs, again I agree with the Colonel. Every manufacturer is now controled by the marketing dept. and the specs are all edited prior to release. You can get some idea with specs. Things to look for are qualifiers. Anybody can say 20 - 20K on a microphone. They havn't really said anything. 20 - 20K +- 3dB says more. It saz fair. 3dB is a pretty good amount of variance. Some companies will publish the actual frequency response on a graph. I am using frequency response as an example, but most every spec has qualification.

Rhode, AKG, Shure, Oktava, are pretty good bet stables. MXL, and Behringer do come up with some pretty impressive mics for the cost but can be spotty. Neuman and Blue of course are holy grails but have their share of problems in some situations as well.

Keep researching! Go the the manufacturer's sites as well as the outlets and dig around. Most of all keep askin questions here and read some of the equipment reviews here.

I use a NADY pre-amp and have a few really cheap ($5) NADY dynamic mics. They are a little to warm for recording but work great for our band practice. No issues or concerns with the pre-amp. Mine has worked without issues for a number of years now.

As for mics, also check out the $5 Karma Micro mics... I kid you not. They work great on vocals and acoustic.

If you listen to "I Know She Understands" (in my profile), all acoustic and vocal tracks were done with those mics.
