How do I use a rode NTK properly?

I feel like I should know the answer to this but I don't. Since the rode NTK comes with its own power source, do I use a preamp with it?

Sorry I left major part of the question out hope the edit helps.

I don't understand that last sentance. Are you asking if you have to use a preamp because of the power supply? If so, yes, the power supply is not a preamp, it power supply for the microphone. You still need to hit a pre.

yeah, the mic being a condensor mic will require phantom power. What came with it is probably a power supply. So you can actually just plug the mic into the power supply and then into your console or something, as most consoles have some foorm of preamp in them. Stand alone preamps usually will have phantom power in them. The better mic and preamp you use, the better sound you'll end up getting, however a seperate pre isn't really needed so long as you have a console with a preamp in it, and something to give the mic phantom power. For a long time, I just used my mixer to do both before I got a standalone preamp.

Thanks a bunch, I'm glad you were able to read through my mistakes I figured I would use external pre's till I get my mixer hooked up. I question if I really need the mixer now but I guess thats to be determined. I'll be going into a mike pre to a MOTU 896, to the computer. I'm using mackie trackion 3, so far I've used the mixer in the program.

Don't send it phantom power. It doesn't need it, nor want it. That's why it has a power supply. It's a tube condenser. But I have read that it can take it. Some people say it makes it sound better? I don't know about that, but again, it doesn't need the voltage.

As a heads up, all mics and PS's these days can handle phantom. Something about the ground cancelling out the power and the stuff lol.

Thanks a million, now that I have accumulated a nice variety of mic's and pre's, all I need is one that can improve my voice.
