can I hook up a regular 1/8" computer mic to an audiophile 2496?

Cause it only accepts RCA, and while I do have adapters, I can't even get my regular computer mics working with a 1/8" to RCA adapter. I also have a Behringer Xenyx 802 mixer, in case I would need to go through that. I'm just trying to use a headset so I can talk online when playing Counter Strike. Thanks in advance.

As far as i know you can. You would just need CS to know you're using the 2496.

I can't think of any reason the adapter doesn't work other than the card being faulty or the PC isn't expecting to hear anything from the card.

I know it's a no brainer but make sure you're PC's default SC is the 2496.

Failing that you might need to look at a USB head set.

I think that those PC mics acutally require a small phantom power voltage, like 5V or something. They're electret microphones.

well i tested my sm57 on CS, and it worked. my computer mics won't though, even when i turn phantom power on.

and for the phantom power you're talking about tadpui, is that an adapter i would need or just a new mic altogether?

Definitely don't turn on the phantom power from a mixer or preamp because its 48V, and the PC mics only expect 5V. Its probably a different delivery method anyways, delivered via either the tip, ring, or sleeve of the little 1/8" plug. It probably does't map to the correct element thru the adaptor.

I'd just stick to plugging the PC mic into the mic input on your consumer sound card and not the Audiophile. I've used my SM57 for VOIP before and it seemed to work fine, so you could ditch the PC mic altogether. Although its a little bulky having a boom stand next to your gaming machine to hold the SM57 in position :)

That's another one of my problems....my PC will not recognize my onboard soundcard if my new one is in. Like, when I try to select it under audio devices, it's just not there. Every option is connected with my Audiophile card.

Whenever I take it out however, its there. It's Realtek AC97 btw. I wish it were as easy as just switching back to onboard sound and plugging in the headset that way, but the only way I can switch back as of now is to take the actual soundcard out of the computer =(
