Hey, I’ll be leaving on vacation this Friday to California via Las Vegas, and I was thinking of the possibility of saying hello to any members that may be along the route.

Here’s the itinerary:

Vegas – Friday night, all day Saturday (8/3-8/4).

To Morro Bay, CA on Sunday (8/5).

To Sequoia National Park - Monday through Wednesday (8/6-8/8).

To Bakersfield on Thursday (8/9) to see the in-laws.

Possibly to St. George, UT to spend Friday night, then home.

If there are any HRC types in the immediate vicinity of our stops, we might be able to arrange to say a quick howdy…

Pulled into in Morro Bay a couple hours ago. Just gorged at the Great American Fish Co. Killer seafood here. Some great photo ops too; going to burn some film tonite and in the morning.

I didn't realize that we were driving through Ventura until we left Las Vegas.... then I remembered that TallChap lives there. TC, I missed you by THAT much...Muuuwaahahahahaa!

It's Beer:30. Oh and Bleak, I'd never try to get a bus to Australia...but if I make it there, I'll be hollering at ya!

Noize, when I seafood, I eat it.

Decided to stay another night here at the bay, then it's off to Sequoia Nat'l Park tomorrow for a couple of nights in a tent. Probably no Internet there, but you never know. These days, it's everywhere.

Ha, that's HILARIOUS. Listen to me, on vacation, wondering if a campsite has Wi-Fi. I must be a sick man. Or just another victim of the 21st century.

Hmm, maybe I can log on at the ranger station....

Thats how I did it long ago. Snatch a few minutes on the rangers PC whenever we were at an extended camp out.

The only real reason we took the laptop on vacation was for Tambra to complete some of her online course assignments. Now that those are finished, we don't have a real need for it. But it's like having a cell phone. You think you need it only because you're used to it.

"Honey, would you put another marshmallow onto my stick while I check my email?" LOL

Are stick's good with marshmallow's on them?

I've only tried em with peanut butter.

We got the marsmallows, but the only kind they had at the Mini-Mart were the miniatures. Challenging to thread onto the stick, but just as tasty.

The two days & nights at Sequoia were WONDERFUL. Got some great pictures that I'll post to my gallery after I get home and fix 'em up. Pretty sore tonight from sleeping on the ground, uphill hiking, and saddle sores.

Yup, just when you thought you'd heard everything, Herb rides a horse. Yesterday, we took a trail ride for an hour. That was..interesting. Tambra snapped a pic of me on my mount, named Buford. I'll certainly be posting that pic for your entertainment.

In Bakersfield tonight at an EconoLodge. Sleeping in tomorrow...

Herb, I am just trying to picture you on a horse. But a one hour ride and your hiney is sore. Man, that is not good. I used to ride every chance I had back in the 70's. I owned a couple of quarter horses and lived on and ran a boarding stable. But the worst part was that you never got that smell off ya no matter how many showers you took. If you lived in it you smelled like it. :-)

Glad the trip is going well so far, and can't wait to see the pic's.

Back home now after a great vacation!

Yeah Noize, the smell was a factor, because the showers at the park were only open from 11 to 4. Tam and I had to wait until Bakersfield the next day, to clean up. Fortunately, we're in love.

Me and Buford:

And WYD, I did feel a little guilty for making the poor old plug haul my fat *** up and down the mountain, but the ride made my wife very happy.

So when it came down to the choice between giving her a memory to last a lifetime, and inconveniencing a horse for an hour, well... the horse lost ;-)

OK, so I'm a little slow. I just got that.

Noize, you've been involved with Boy Scouts for long enough, now. Put down the compass and binoculars and slooowly back away.

LOL

I am trying to back away slowly. Problem is I am in so deep and feel that even though Tuna is pretty much done now I still owe it to the youngest, Ray to stay awhile longer. Besides, I have the option to do Seabase next year with Ray if I want to. Sailing and 80 foot schooner out and around the Keys was a blast and I would not mind doing it again. Not sure my knee's will hold up again though.

But you are right. I did 9 years as a kid, and its been 10 years now as an adult. I actually thought about going for the Scout Masters Key which is the highest award in for an adult scouter to earn. I've held every position at the Cub level and now pretty much the same at the boy scout level. But then again, I'm not really here for me to earn awards, for me its all about watching the kids do things they never thought they could.

With the scouts its the same as it is when I'm here. I just plain feel like I need to be giving something back for what I have gotten out of life both in scouting and in music.
