Alesis DM5 to Sonar3 recording

Hello,

I'm just learning to record from an AlesisDM5 to Sonar3.

Any help would be appreciated.

So far I have not been able to record from the drumset to Sonar3.

Setup:
1 Alesis DM5 Drum Module
2 Alesis DM5 Drum Kit
3 Sonar3 Producer
4 Project 5
5 SoundBlaster Live Soundcard
6 Pulsar midi cable: in/out on AlesisDM5 to midi/game port on soundcard.

Sonar3 outputs music good, and it does accept the SoundBlaster as a midi i/o.

But when I start a new project in Sonar3 and start recording, and hopefully have set the midi settings on the Alesis correctly; I still get nothing recorded into Sonar3. Perhaps the cable is bad, or perhaps I should upgrade the soundcard. But I am sure it is something I am doing incorrectly.

Any help would be great.

What are you expecting to be recorded? Because all that should be recorded into Sonar is MIDI data, not any actual sound.

Found the problem.

Turned out to be a midi
cable. Checked it as a
last resort.

The AlesisDM5 now records great
into Sonar3.

Thanks anyhow,

Joe

Just wanted to add that the
Pulsartech midi cable works great,
it was a human error on my part.
Just wanted to make that clear.

thanks,

I'm a big fan of '...' also...

...but technically it's still proper grammar...

it's just a way of makin' it feel like you're talking instead of writing a research paper. it just reads better to me.

I'm not into the short line thing either. I forget who else does that here and do agree it drives me nuts.

Alright,

Enough about my choppy sentences already.

It had to do with my english prof
in college. He said he never gives
anyone an 'A' for the class, so I shortened my
sentences to make sure I didnt
upset the guy.

But anyway,

Can anyone recommend a mixer in the
$1000-3000 range that would be suitable
for home recording.

thanks,

joe
