I have an SM58 pluged into a Behringer Eurorack 1204FX Pro and that plugs into my US-122 that plugs into my laptop...i know, i don't know what im doing. I'll be getting a condenser mic soon.

I plan to record acoustic guitar and vocals. I have no idea how to turn on preamp (or even tell if a am using it and using it correctly) for the mic and anyother input as to how to make it sound better( i still have hissing in the recordings) would be a big help. Websites you know of would help me too.

the preamp is the black knob at the top of the channel strip on your mixer (might say "gain" or "trim")...make sure all faders are unity gain (0db) when you're tracking..this will help keep down the noize.

Okay, i think i understand...so there is no button to turn this on. If the knob is at 12 o'clock the mic preamp would be on?

yep, off would be turnin' it all the way to the left.....you want to have it up almost until the signal clips (red light)...to get the best signal to noize ratio (less hiss)
