when i try to install my tascam with the cd and after it tells me to unplug and plug the tascam back in, my lap top crashes. When it tuns back on it says that my lap top suffered from a serious problem.

I literally bought this today and wanted to do some recording but now im disappointed.

On top of that now there is no sound on my lap top anymore!!

It sounds as though you have a bad USB port on the laptop. I have seen that happen here as well on a desktop PC. If you have another USB port try it on that. Or better yet if there is another PC or laptop available try to install on that one. If it crashes that as well then you have a bad US-122L unit. Tascam has kind of gone down hill a bit in the past couple of years and there seems to have been several people here with issues trying to install these units.

it worked perfectly on my pc, I tried to put an external hard drive into the usb port and it worked, could it be the sound card or any other kind of device on my lap top that causes it to crash?

Are you sure you have the most recent drivers for the Tascam?

Yep, I didn't mention that. dB is correct to make sure you have the latest driver available from Tascam. Go here, www.tascam.com/Products/US-122l.html and on the left lower part of the column you will see both a driver update and a firmware update. I think that may help you if you only have the driver install from the CD. I seem to recall someone else here having an issue as well. Not crashing but simply not booting up. But it is at leasat a good sign that the external USB HD works so you know the port is good.

Before you install the update drivers remove the old drivers in case that was a bad install. Then install the new drivers before trying to do the firmware update, as if it is crashing you won't be able to update firmware with out the USB hooked up.

I downloaded the 1.02 version with the firmware but as soon as the installation was complete the "blue screen" reappeared and my computer would not reboot until i took out the tascam out of the usb port, and literally every time i insert my tascam into the usb port it crashes right away.

whoa, sound like you must have some sort of hardware conflict. I'd call Tascam and ask them of any known hardware that this device doesn't play well with.

One question. Are you plugging in the Tascam before you do the driver install. IF so try doing the driver install with the with the Tascam unplugged, then upon completing the initial driver install plug the Tascam in and let windows do the rest.

Well i did some research and it seems since i have windows media edition, home recording is a pain to do. I just have one more question... to make tascam 122L work would i need to install a different version on windows or would i have to get a new computer?

Ah, see we should have asked what OS you were running. Indeed Media Center edition has been giving all but one user here a headache and then some.

As for XP, yep simply installing it will solve the issue. Make sure thought that you run all the updates to SP2 and everything else before installing the Tascam. But yes, switching back to XP should slove you issues.

Anyways thanks for your help Noize and Masters,

You can go to XP from media edition. IF you have your old XP disc simply do an fdisk and clean the drive then install XP back in.

So it just re-installed Xp right over the medai center version? It must have formatted the disc then on its own.

Does it seem to be working now then?

I suggest trying a local computer shop that specializes in parts and such. They can usually sell you an OEM copy with any piece of hardware. And that includes a cable or whatever. And it will be much cheaper that way as well.
