Help creating distortion sound

So I've been trying to play and record my bands debut album and ive been having trouble getting a good distorted guitar sound. My guitarist says he wants a sound like the guitar in Hypocrisy's Roswell 47 on the Abducted album. If someone could give me some pointers that would be awesome.
