I'd like to know the definition.

What's the meaning of soft synth and sampling?

For me,
I think sampling is using samples to make music.
MIDI data is used to trigger the samples and make them sound.

Am I right?
Then how about soft synth?

Thanks~~

sampling is taking sound samples that have previously recording and arranging them to make music. You don't necessarily have to use midi data to sample.

soft synths are programs that create sound either by using previously recorded samples or by mimicking the process of generating and affecting wave forms (sin, saw, etc...) and outputting the audio. Soft synths are almost always controlled using midi.

sampling is either taking a sample of another recording to use in your own, or going out into the field and capturing your own audio samples.

a soft synth is just shorthand for software synthesizer.
