Midi output for Sonar

Hello all,
I am using Sonar 6 SE,
and mostly I will use it for MIDI and Audio manipulation, like recording and sequencing.
For MIDI, I always use sampling.
I want to ask,
will you bounce all the midi track to audio wave first(with each instrument) and edit it afterwards? Or you will prefer outputing the final mix via Sonar with DXi without making them to wave manually?

yeah get your midi data to where the "performance" is where you want it...then bounce to a wave 'track' to mix with your other audio tracks...then bounce to stereo.

If you are using a softsynth or softsampler as a VSTi or DXi in Sonar there is no need to bounce to audio. Sonar will do when you export the file to wave or mp3 or whatever.
Repeat, no need to bounce the midi track to audio if using a software VSTi or DXi.

which method is better?
If I want to adjust EQ for each instrument,
I am audio manipulation is better (more precise) than manipulating MIDI Dxi, right?
Please give me some opinions, thanks~ :)
May 24, 2007 03:36 pm i personally don't like throwin' vst effects on a soft-synth's audio output in real-time, it taxes my computer a bit much...it's just my thing...i view midi as a performance...and when sequencing, i get the performance down to where i want it...then i like to have everything as wav tracks for when i mix...

...umm i'm not sure what you mean here...there is no "precision" difference.
May 24, 2007 10:33 pm The synth itself IS actually on an audio track in Sonar 6. You simply add an EQ on the tracks insert and you will be all good.
Each software synth has 2 tracks. One for midi data and the other is audio data. You simply need to use the audio track for the FX you want to use.

I understand your point.
For example, I am using Cakewalk TTS,
it contains one audio track.
However, if I use more than one instrument in TTS(As It can contain 16 midi channel),
all FX I applied to that audio track will applied to all instrument, which is not what I want~
so, what should I do in this case?

May 25, 2007 09:12 pm terryko, I will have to check but I think the TTS can use separate audio outputs when it is running in Sonar 6. But you can look there yourself as well. Simply open TTS up in the synth rack view and when the drop down menu opens asking if you want a midi and audio track see if you can highlite open all audio outputs or un-tick open first audio output only. Then you will have a separate audio track for each instrument.
