For anyone feeling a little ambiently metallic and rockingly fusionesque...

:))

Great recording! everything's so clear.

This is a very cool tune!

The drums are amazing!!!

Love the first change up. That organ sound works so well, wasn't expecting that one.

This is a very well thought out and very well put together mix.

I know it's an instrumental but it's screaming out for some singing :)

Very cool stuff indeed!

definitely a killer song. i agree with bleak on everything, especially the drums they were kickin. the mix is very well done. it's hard to get a good sounding hard rock sound. great tone on the guitars. were you micing your amps or using a modeler?
some vocals would be great, but man i was definitely aching for a shrieking, face-melting guitar solo. but, easier said than done i know.
love the changes throughout as well, they're all rockin and give the composition real good depth.

Thanks! Most appreciated. I was micing a Vetta II with a Royer R121 and an E609 from Senheiser. All the mics went through my Grace 101 mic pre. This tune will be one of 6 instrumentals for the new disc and the other 5 tunes will be vocal oriented.

Sorry about not shredding :)) I'm more the Alex Lifeson/Jimmy Page type. There will be some areas on the other tunes where I'll stretch my legs a little but I'm really into saying more with less. I do love letting it rip though too. ;)

Thanks again for listening!

Peace,
RobP.

Here is an almost finished vocal track for the new disc. Its called "Into Your Embrace". Keys and a string arrangement need added but thought you could check it out. Look forward to some thoughts on it.

Here are the lyrics...

Into Your Embrace

Verse 1
Turn from me, this wretched mess
How do you dare to stare at this?
Grant me this, time to collect
Before you gaze at me again

Chorus
Reaching in, calling out
Pulling me
Into your embrace
Without fear, without shame
I will fall into your embrace

Verse 2
In this dirt, where I dwell
Just building castles to myself
Now I see, what I’ve become
Self crowned king with no kingdom

Verse 3
I turned from you and hoped to hide
I can’t escape your prying eyes
Who am I that you’d call son
Through all the foolish things I’ve done

Repeat Chorus

Pre-Bridge
Now I stand at your throne
King of kings, I bow to you alone
I bow to you alone
Bridge
I won’t forget where I came from
You turned me around
I won’t forget all that you’ve done
You turned me around
Hating myself then you gave love
You turned me around
How can it be you call me son

Repeat Chorus

Man, Shane's voice fits this perfectly. I can hear the key and string's already in my head. That sounds like a killer fit for this piece! I liked the subdued guitar sound until about 3:25 then they pick up just for a moment. Nicely done, the arrangement is absolutely stellar. The tone on the following solo is excellent as well and not over done. I can see how a string part will surely add some drama to an already powerful piece. There sound to be a couple sections were they can take a dramatic turn and help build some power. Pre bridge and bridge maybe. Just thinking out loud here.

Only thing I would comment on is to tighten the bass, but I will assume this is only rough mix.

Thanks Noize!

The low end is always a challenge for me to get really tight. Any thoughts? This is basically the real deal way it will sound minus the addition of the strings & keys.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again for checking it out!

I'll try and give another listen tomorrow and see. It might just be the file opening up in WinAmp is doing it. I usually use win media player but the auto play files just seem to want to open up in WinAmp for some reason.

No I'm pretty sure the low end could use some suggestions. :)

Bass is the only thing that I just struggle with for a great tight sound. Its my lack of equipment / proper environment and most likely knowledge that gets me close but no cigar :))

Right now I just have Eric going into the Bass Pod and then straight into the sound card. We've messed around with that Pod forever finding the best overall even sounding setting.

He is a pretty even fingered player but his bass has active pups so that usually gives me a little bit of a headache.

I do make room in the spectrum for the kick and guitars.

Check it out and let me know if there is a renegade freq that I missed thats mucking up the works.

Thanks!

Ya, low end is tough, that is where a multiband compressor is nice, you can really tighten up the lows without sucking the life out of the mids and highs.

Yep for sure...

Any settings you care to offer up for me to try and experiment with?

I have all the Waves plugs. So i would be using the C4

I'll open it up on the studio box and run it there. Then I can route it through WaveLab and try the MB on it to see if I can narrow it down a bit. Later this evening or tomorrow morning.

On the surfbox I don't have WinAmp set up like WMP to playback properly so I'll give the above a try to have a better look. Maybe dB has a setting he likes for the C4 or any MB since he is a bass player as well.
