Yes!! Finally got the chance to upload my latest work here at HRC.. Thanks to dB (Happy B'Day bro; again! cough2) for the 10MBs!

Basically, this is just a cover song (thats why its not in the Music & Composition forum). I was just pushing the limits of all the gears & softwares I've got including all the knowledge I gained here at HRC with you ppl.

Drums were done by FruityLoops and guitar tones are from PODxt. Utilized not more than 10 square feet of space to accomplish this in a working office. Phew.. I'll die a happy man guys!!

It has been 3 years here for me at HRC and still amazed realizing the fact that I'm still learning new things here everyday.

Cheers to everybody!! Comments are most welcomed!

Nice work...not my style but the recording is good, however, the leads seem to get drown out by the rhythm section often...I think I'd open a place in the frequency spectrum for the leads to ring through.

Thanks a bunch dB for listening. I'll try to frequency-separate the leads from the rythms.

As for me during the mixing, the hardest part was getting the bass and kick sit together until I read WYD's advise on the same issue for somebody (cant remember, but I'm gonna personally thank him for that)~ that is to "boost and cut" the respective kick and bass guitar; at the same key frequency. It worked surprisingly well at least to my ears. I believe the same trick might work for the leads and the distorted guitars.

Well Cheers!

hey man, you're welcome! glad it worked for ya.
i use the notching technique more than anyother 'general eq' apprroach, of course each project dictates it's own needs...but it was real hard to get my head around 'eqing to make things sound better' (ie: eqing the whole mix) and eqing to get tracks to play nicely with eachother (ie: notching/boosting conflicting tracks in an inversally perportional way)....the percieved 'clarity' of the mix by dooin' this is more important than compressing/limiting "correctly" IMHO.

will give your mix a listen here after lunch (i'm posting in 'astronomy class' and making cd's all at the same time!)

cheers bro!

woho I havent thank you yet.

Couldnt agree more on the notching technique for clarity thing. This is the real mixing art when we change one track's spectrum while adjusting others at the same spot so they all can sit well together.

The better I do this, the lesser compression i need to use in the mix. Which is great!

Now I thank you bro!

ciinx, that kicks ***! I will have to give it another listen to give any critique and will do so tomorrow. But on first listen I loved the guitars and bass together. But again that tune kicks ***!

Hey, sorry it took so long to get back here. Things are a bit harried around here lately. On listening again I do agree with dB on the lead guitar kind of taking a backseat during some parts were it is just the heavy guitars and the lead parts. The entire mix sounds stellar other then that. The drums are great and in just the right place. The bass is pretty much were it should be in the mix although it could maybe have a tiny bit more presence, but not a must do.

The lead guitar being quiet is really only in the beginning section of the of the mix. If I get a little time I will try and give a critical listen and tweak the EQ a bit to see were it sits. It seems that it is mostly noticeable when the lead hits some of the lower notes, otherwise it is pretty audible.

But again, the tune really sounds great.
