It's on Spike TV, live from Manchester, England...fighters from everywhere in the world, should be some good rumbles, the first one is good so far, I hope the brazilian destroys the Frenchie, but so far it doesn't look like that will be the case.

UFC 70? I remember watching UFC 1 back in the day. It has come a long way, and got huge in the process.

Yeah, it's gotten pretty watered down...back when you watched it was ruled by Royce Gracie and he was fighting guys 100 lbs heavier than him in no round limit serious tough-guy contests...he cleaned up cuz he wasn't a big brawler, he was trained...

Now, to get their success, the UFC sold out in many ways, fights get stopped quicker, rounds are 5 minutes and other rules.

On the whole, it still rocks, the fights are better, cuz once Royce started ruling the cage everybody started training real fighting arts. So the fighters are better trained, but the UFC has really let their success come at a big price.

Now UFC bought Pride. Pride is still more of what the UFC used to...I wonder if it'll get dumbed down or it'll be left alone.

It was indeed very serious. I watched the first few. One of my favorites was against the giant wrestler dude Daniel Severn (sp?). That dude pounded on Gracie for like 15 minutes, but Gracie blocked what he could and waited for the perfect moment. He was/is amazing.

Yeah, Dan "The Beast" Severn...man now that guy is a trainer I think, does the seminar circuit and stuff. Royce is amazing, his brother Rickson is too, they may not be the biggest, fastest, strongest guys, but their cardio is friggin amazing and, well, their grappling, as any Gracie, is great. Royce lost to Matt Hughes a few months ago, but none the less the dude is amazing.

I have trained with Rodrigo Gracie (Royce and Rickson's nephew) and that guy rolls like he has 8 legs and 4 arms...unbelievable.

If people want self defense skills, grappling/ground fighting is where it's at...I grapple with my daughters a lot, it's fun and whether they know it or not, they are getting good skills out of it.

Of course once they start becoming young ladies I'll have to knock that off...

Yeah, the Gracie bros do seminars or something right? My buddy went to one when they came to Alaska, not sure which one though.

But yes, grappling is my choice for self defense as my dad put us in freestyle wrestling young (I was 4). Anyway, I never fought much in school, but if I did they indeed always ended up on the ground very quick. I did not try to hurt people but just hold them there until they got tired.

And once they start becoming young ladies, you will at least know that they can protect themselves when need be.

Yeah, they do seminars, Rodrigo works in the Royce Gracie network, which I trained in, Rickson has his own as does Royler and every other Gracie...

Royce and Rickson are the biggest of the Gracies it seems, I like Royce's techniques as they seem more "fight" oriented as opposed to "grappling" oriented. Just grappling is all well and good for sport and competition, but try to do while getting hit in the face like in a street brawl and well...you know...

That said, both Royce and Rickson are very accomplished MMA cage fighters and no holds barred type stuff.

That is my goal with my girls, just to get them comfortable grappling...cuz when women are attacked, more often than not they will wind up on the ground...

Now that it's nice out I have to get Noize to bring his boys over here a few times, I sparred with them a little last year, it was a blast knockin' around a couple kids...with dads approval and encouragement.

I didn't stay awake long enough, my neighbor told me it was awesome tho...I only ended up watching the first few fights. I missed Arlovski too, which was a bummer, I like watching that dude fight.
