Sound Blaster Audigy has got to go.....?

I started out mixing Hip Hop music a couple of years ago, using nothing but Logitech 2.1 speakers and a Sound Blaster Audigy soundcard. Amazingly, I have gotten some pretty good results considering my equipment. I am now in the process of taking it to the next level. I currently have a set of Tascam VL-X5 active monitors being shipped to me and have started thinking it would probably be a good idea to give the Audigy sound card the boot. I do not record the vocals on this setup, they are all recorded in a friends home studio and imported into my setup. I use Nuendo 3 and rewire Reason to mix the vocals in. So I really do not need a card with lots of inputs. I am on about a $400 dollar budget so maybe you can point me in the right direction.

Also, how much of a difference can I expect in sound quality with a new card? I was looking at Hammerfall cards on ebay...? Keep in mind I am just mixing and not recording....thanks.

Define "a lot of inputs" meaning how many?

A better sound card will increase your sound quality, yes due to usually having higher quality jacks and more refined drivers, but more it will increase performance when mixing lot so tracks, when SB's start choking a better card will keep going. They also generally have lower latency.

M-Audio makes some cards that are nice, with 4 or 8 inputs.

a lot of inputs - I really don't need any inputs, just better performance. I usually do work with quite a few tracks and from time to time my SB does start to choke. I will look into those cards. Thanks.

oh oh oh, NOT need a lot of inputs, I didn't catch the key word "NOT" :-) That being said www.homerecordingconnecti...oduct=MDOAP2496 would be a wonderful card for you, or, ESI has a similar one called Juli@. That's the one I use, very high perf, low latency, lots of input/output options, RCA, 1/4", optical, S/PDIF... www.esi-pro.com is where you'll find it.

E-Mu 0404 isn't a bad upgrade either, for the money.
