Ok cheers guys,
can i ask for opinions on some software sequencers - Cubase studio 4 or Logic Pro? i think they are relivatly similarily priced.
I'm used to the Cubase layout as i have a basic cubase program but i want to expand - im well into midi programming and also would want to re-wire reason but also use audio - and lots of room for lots of effects....
can anyone help...?
cheers.

My friends uses Ableton with great success. Ive seen alot of the "trigger intensive" groups use it to, like Kid Insane and Telefon Tel Aviv. Those groups basically just sequence live, so I would say its very much geared toward that kind of work.

Hey Corin, I don't want to rain on the parade here but Cubase studio 4 would not be a stable or quick program to use live at all. Programs like Cakewalks Project 5 version 2 and Ableton Live were built with all the streamlining to accommodate live use. The problem you will encounter with Cubase or Logic is the fact they cannot process data fast enough in a live situation. Cakewalk has worked for over 5 years to eliminate all the skips one might encounter when making changes on the fly live. Most programs will hang up when you try to do a quick edit or punch in an effect live. And most do not handle them the way Project 5 does. I have built over 100 DJ sets for various artists using P5 and not had one drop out due to program changing or editing audio on the fly. If I find in the middle of a set I need a different bit of audio dropped in while the program is playing I can do so without any ill effect. I will say Ableton has not overcome that barrier yet though they do have some good things going for them they are not yet up to the level of P5 from Cakewalk. I know some artist that are actually using Sonar 5 and 6 in live situations as well. But that is more directed toward a straigh up DAW not a live sequencer like P5 is.

Have a look at the video intro here, www.project5.com it will take a moment to load but it will give you a slight glimpse at what it can do.

If you need more detail just ask.

I think StageTracker is one of the best.
Pro: you can manage setlists and it's very fast in loading the songs.
Contra: you cannot record while playing

But all in all it's great.
