I KNOW NOTHING

Anyone know a good resource for buying used laptops? I'd like to get my daughter one for her birthday, and I'm pretty wary of the Amazon route. Craigslist hasn't been fruitful, either.
It doesn't have to be anything fancy. She'll be using for story writing, word processing, etc....
Heck, if anyone here has a decent one for sale, PM me.

Mar 24, 2007 08:48 pm JF, I'll check at work and see if we still have any of the ones no longer used laying around. It may require buying a HD for it but I have seen like an 80 gig for around the $50.00 mark online. WE may have a couple that wouldn't need that though. I'll let ya know.
Mar 24, 2007 10:06 pm hey peeps, hi, i'm lookin' for something like this too. i formally insert myself into this thread, any advice most appreciated. i need a very simple machine as well.

wow what a mistake that'd be. be worth less than 500, minus any gold and diamonds, in about two years.

Mar 27, 2007 09:06 pm OK, guys. I checked at work and all have been scavanged and returned to our main office without my knowledge. Bummer for the person who did that when I find out as I'm the only one authorized to send and receive out computer hardware. Anyway, I will keep my eyes open and let you know if I come across anything soon.
Mar 28, 2007 06:22 pm Hey, guys, thanks for the tips. I just found one off of Craigslist here in Columbus. It's a Toshiba, celeron something or another, 2.4 GHz, 40 gig hard drive, XP Pro, good battery, 15 inch screen.
300 bucks....
Good deal?
It's a little more than I planned, but what the heck, I've only got one child, and she is a really is a great kid. Heck of a writer, too, so that's something I definitely want to promote.
And it makes me happy to be able to do more for my kid than I ever had it! Woo Hoo!
Anyway, thanks again, guys.

Mar 28, 2007 07:06 pm Laptops, even old ones usually sell for at least $200 as long as they work, they usually drop fast but never go below a certain price point. That sounds like a decent deal for $300, especially if she likes it and your happy buying it for her :)
