Hey, I'm new to home recording and I've been playing around with my Fostex MR-8 for awhile now. Here's a question for you guys....
How can I put effects (reverb, delay, etc) on ONE track of let's say 4 total tracks? I can only get it to put the effects on all tracks at once.
Also...When I record, I take my final work and connect my fostex Mr-8 to my PC and upload the tracks, however, sometimes I get an error message while it's uploading that says "Invaild source error / file type". Any advice on that one?
One more....when I go to upload my tracks onto my PC the effects aren't there! How can I 'cement' them on the tracks so that they will carry onto my PC?
All that I'm using is my amp's output, my fostex mr-8, one mic, and my PC.
Thank you so much for helping with any of this, I'm still getting the basics of all this worked out! I really appreciate it.

Mar 09, 2007 01:13 pm The user manual confused me. I got lost in the diagrams and jargon. I was hoping someone would be able to dumb it down for me. Once I'm more familiar with the terms and things, it will be much easier. Any help is appreciated.

I don't think you can "cement" the effect during upload, unless you bounce all four tracks to one master stereo track.
Regardless, the effects in the cheesiest of editors are probably going to be an upgrade from the built-in effects on the Fostex, anyway. And there are a lot of good, free VST plugs out there, too.
But I had the original, two-track simultaneous version of the MR-8, too, so the new one might be different.
Great little recorder, though.
What kind of editor are you using?
Mar 12, 2007 01:04 pm Thanks for backing me up on the crappy instruction manual. I record from a line out of my amp into the fostex-mr8, then I just plug in the USB cable and upload it onto my PC. From there, I'm using Sony ACID Studio. It seems that it works best when I just upload the raw stripped down tracks to ACID and then adjust how they pan and their effects. What are those VST'S that you had mentioned?
Mar 12, 2007 04:58 pm Here are some basic freebies from Voxengo. I know a lot of people like the company, and I've never had a problem with their plugs.
Old School Verb and the Stereo Touch are both decent, for sure.

Kjaerhus has some good free ones, too.

Do we have a thread (like a sticky) on free VST's?
