i just bought a new 320 gb drive for my windows xp. it shows up as being 298, which is fine. the decimal system windows uses shows me that this is to be expected--it's still the full capacity. so i don't think i have any compatibility issues if the full size is showing up.
but i tried to transfer 35 gb's of files to the thing, and after 10 gb i got an error that said there wasn't enough disk space! please clear up space, etc.
western digital is closed right now so i cant call the helpline. does this ring any bells for anyone?

Mar 01, 2007 12:55 am Maybe its partitioned and you were copying the files to a small partition of the harddrive.
Mar 01, 2007 12:57 am i think it's because it's formatted FAT. i'm changing to NTFS unless someone intervenes...
Mar 01, 2007 01:02 am (oh, and if anyone knows anything about this, please, i beg you, please intervene. say something, anything. this makes me nervous for some reason...)
it's gotta be what's up though
Mar 01, 2007 06:08 am yeah ok. while you guys are sloberring on your east coast pillows i have solved my problem.
NTFS biotch!
lol
Mar 01, 2007 06:29 am Nobody in their right mind would try to stop you from changing to NTFS.

Mar 01, 2007 05:23 pm right well i forgot all about the file system thing. it's been like two years since i've thought about it.
Mar 02, 2007 03:34 am allow me to wax ecstatic about my new 320 gb 'my book' WD hard drive. buying virtual space has healthful benefits.
this is the new frontier. it's the wild west all over again. do it. buy space. clear your mind. ntfs gigs in tha house!

Mar 04, 2007 12:02 am forty, you know how I fell about having more space. I have preached on the use of huge hard drives for years. In my eyes you can never have enough.
Although I do still use the smaller removable drives and DVD for back up. I can keep may projects and most all my frequently used samples and stuff onboard at all times with the use of a couple of huge SATA hard drives permanently installed in the box.
